Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technology that is transforming every walk of life. It is a wide-ranging tool that enables people to rethink how we integrate information, analyse data, and use the resulting insights to improve decision-making. AI isn’t a new concept to the world. We have been there to witness it steadily grow over the decades, and then pick up the pace at an incredible speed in the past few years.
AI has now become ubiquitous – significantly disrupting several industries and having a major impact on not just the technical functions, but on core business processes ranging from supply chain to health care as well. Businesses around the world utilise AI to improve operational efficiency and to identify patterns that are hard for humans to derive. From SIRI to self-driving cars, artificial intelligence is progressing rapidly. While science fiction often portrays AI as robots with human-like characteristics, AI can encompass anything from Google’s search algorithms.
Rootcode Labs is a software product engineering company with a penchant for innovation; they began their IT ventures over 5 years ago. They cater products and services primarily to markets in Europe, the USA, and Asia. Rootcode Labs is headquartered in Sri Lanka with its corporate offices in Estonia and San Francisco, USA.
Alagan Mahalingam is the founder of Rootcode Labs. The company has built tech solutions for over 400 companies across 27 countries. Rootcode Labs recently launched one of their subsidiaries – Rootcode AI. The event was hosted at Mövenpick Hotel Colombo. The event highlighted the fascinating nature of AI while emphasising the fact that it is no longer a research area, but a means to solve the most complex problems that businesses encounter. It is for this very reason that Rootcode AI has branded itself as an AI solutions provider - to be at the forefront of meaningful and constructive change with vast experience in research, architecting, production, and industry-grade applications and strategies.
The event featured some interesting demonstrations that the research team has been working on - including 3D motion tracking and satellite image analysis. Some other research areas that grabbed the attention of the audience were Computer Vision, Auto ML, and creative AI. The attendees of the event also received a sneak peek into some of the enthralling projects at Rootcode AI which included project Morpheus and project Aphelia.
Of the company’s recent success, Founder and CEO of Rootcode Labs Alagan Mahalingam commented, “What is Rootcode AI – If you have been observing the global market and the trends that have been happening over the years, AI has been disrupting a lot of things. AI has been disrupting the way we have been communicating with devices, interacting and consuming things.”
Artificial Intelligence algorithms are designed to make decisions, often using real-time data. They are unlike passive machines that are capable only of mechanical or predetermined responses. Using sensors, digital data, or remote inputs, they combine information from a variety of different sources, analyse the material instantly, and act on the insights derived from those data. As such, they are designed by humans with intentionality and reach conclusions based on their instant analysis.
Explaining how AI works, Alagan added, “Everybody uses Facebook but the way we see relevant things on our news feed every day, Facebook shows you the people you like and doesn’t show you the people you don’t like after awhile, shows you the most relevant political party that you support and keeping you in a bubble; everything is facilitated by AI.”
At Rootcode Labs they have a dedicated AI team who has experience in developing both research and industry-grade applications and strategies ranging from classical process optimisation model development to research-grade model development.
“Rootcode Labs has been very successful in expanding and serving customers from smaller startups to bigger cooperates and enterprises worldwide. Today we are here launching Rootcode AI and there is a much bigger vision,” he stated.
Rootcode builds digital products from mobile apps to complex web applications and AI products from consumer apps, banking, to healthcare and telecommunications, and more. One of their biggest clients is an analytics firm in the US for whom they developed a complete Business Analytics Framework that competes with big names such as Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
“Artificial Intelligence when coupled with intelligent humans can play a pivotal role in increasing efficiency and solving problems that are harder for humans to tackle alone. Through our recently launched subsidiary - Rootcode AI, we seek to leverage its power for the benefit of businesses, humanity, and the world we live in,” Alagan noted.
It is evident that in the current era of technology artificial intelligence plays a massive role in shaping the future of businesses and organisations. AI is no longer only a research area and its presence is prevalent in the industry more than ever before.
AI adds intelligence to existing products. In most cases, AI will not be sold as an individual application. Rather, products you already use will be improved with AI capabilities. In summary, the goal of AI is to provide software that can reason on input and explain on output.
We know that there are boundless problems that can be solved and opportunities can be discovered using Artificial Intelligence. Rootcode’s AI team has full-fledged experience in developing AI solutions and strategies in areas such as computer vision, natural language processing, business process optimisation, anomaly detection, intelligent data process, and analytics and complex document processing, and text mining using state of the art technologies and practices.
The launch event wouldn’t have been complete without the insightful panel discussion - moderated by Alagan Mahalingam - that elucidated the impact of AI. The panelists included Randhula De Silva - Co-founder and CEO of GLX, Mangala Perera - Vice president of IFS, and Mohammed Fawaz - Founder and CEO of Curve Up, who discussed the impact of AI on industries and dived deep into the argument behind AI ethics. The interactive session also welcomed intriguing queries from the audience on the subject of AI.
According to Fortune Business Insights 2020, the market size of Artificial Intelligence was valued at $27.23 billion, while the figure is projected to reach over $266.92 billion by 2027 - nearly a tenfold increase in just six years. Additionally, nine out of 10 businesses have ongoing investments in AI, which is proof of its widespread adoption by the business community.
In light of this, Rootcode AI - which has been functioning as part of Rootcode Labs and is now a new subsidiary - is thrilled to help customers from all industries take their businesses forward by building software products and solutions powered by Artificial Intelligence.
