Road mishaps took 205 lives in April

A total of 205 persons were killed in road accidents in the month of April alone, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana claimed. He added 1,959 road accidents were recorded by Police in April.
The highest frequency of accidents is usually reported in the month of April, DIG Rohana said. In the 1,959 accidents, 1,253 individuals were injured, 461 critically. DIG Rohana further revealed the highest number of accidents had been reported in the Western Province and motorcycles and three-wheelers were involved in most of them.
Statistics also showed that Monday was the day in the week in which the most accidents had been reported. DIG Rohana said that most accidents occurred between 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. The main causes of road accidents are drunk driving reckless driving, neglectful driving and speeding, DIG Rohana pointed out.
