Road development irregularities in Karachchi PS: Residents complain to Northern Governor
By Naalir Jamaldeen
Residents of the Ooriyan Second Unit in the Karachchi Pradeshiya Sabha administrative limits have made a written complaint to Northern Province Governor P.S.M. Charles, in connection with irregularities that have taken place in developing a road in the area.
They have stated that the Ooriyan Second Unit Road remained in a dilapidated condition for nearly 30 years and that steps were taken to develop a 200-metre stretch of this road, utilising Rs 2 million allocated by the Pradeshiya Sabha, with the agreement signed with a community centre in the area.
The residents claimed that despite the development work, low-quality gravel was used in the development process and that a concrete drainage pipe that was in usable condition was also removed.
When the Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha was questioned in this connection, he said that the Kandavalai Divisional Secretary has directed the authorities to give priority to the request of the residents and to develop the Road in the manner they request.
Meanwhile, the Technical Officer attached to this Pradeshiya Sabha said that a sample of the gravel had been sent for laboratory tests, adding that further steps will be taken after they receive the report.
