Road development commences in 341 LG bodies
The development of roads in 341 local government bodies commenced yesterday (29), to mark the first full year of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's tenure.
Minister of Highways, Johnston Fernando presided over the carpeting of the road from Theresa Mawatha, Ja-Ela, Kandana to Rilawulla, marking its inauguration.
Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga, State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure Nimal Lanza, and MP Nalin Fernando were also present.
This road development project was launched in the local government areas as another step towards achieving the target of developing 100,000 km under the "Vision of Prosperity" National Programme within the next four years.
Simultaneously, carpeting of Wahatiya Gama Road, Kudahakapola South Temple Road, Ragama Zoysa Housing Roundabout, Ragama Dambuwa Road and Ja-Ela Idiwita Wewala Road near the Dadugama Lanka Sabha School in the Ja-Ela Pradeshiya Sabha area was commenced. The estimated cost is Rs 87.3 million. 5.3 km will be developed.
Former Provincial Councillors Dilshan Gunawardena, Rajitha Hapuarachchi, Secretary to the Ministry of Highways R.W.R. Pemasiri, and Chairman of the Road Development Authority Chaminda Athaluwage were also present.
