Local Report on LP gas composition today; Sajith wants inquiry committee

Several Government agencies and experts, including the Government Analyst, claim that no explosions of LP gas cylinders have been reported thus far, State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.

Speaking in Parliament today (27), Alagiyawanna noted that a private company was hired to look into the quality and composition of gas currently available in the market.

He revealed that a report in this regard will be received by 5.00 pm today.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa called for the appointment of a Parliamentary Committee to ascertain the true cause of these explosions.

Premadasa said the former Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority had reportedly requested that the butane-propane composition in LP gas cylinders be not changed from 80:20 to 50:50.

He asked if that was true and, requested that data in that regard be provided, if available.
