Record 54 deaths in a day

The number of COVID-19 deaths hit a record 54 in the 24 hours ended at 10 a.m. yesterday, Epidemiology Unit (EU) data showed. This increases the COVID19 death toll in the island, since the first case was detected on 27 January 2020, to 1,843. The number of new cases recorded yesterday was 2,682, while recoveries were 2,168. The number of cases hospitalised as at 10 a.m. yesterday was 28,391. The total number of cases since the first case was detected on 27 January, 2020 is 210,661 and the total number of recoveries since have been 180,427. The first case detected on 27 January 2020 was that of a Chinese woman tourist. The aforesaid numbers includes foreigners. EU’s definition of a day is the 24 hours ended as at 10 a.m. on a particular day.
