Reason for collapse of cricket is weaknesses of administration: COPE
The Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Prof. Charitha Herath pointed out that the reason for the massive collapse of cricket in the country was not the fault of the players but the weaknesses of the cricket administration.
He pointed this out during the meeting between the COPE and the officials of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday (06).
Furthermore, the COPE instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Sports Anuradha Wijekoon to take legal action if any of the former members of the SLC Executive Committee are found guilty of any irregularities in the performance report for the years 2017 and 2018, and to obtain the assistance of the Attorney General with this regard.
The Committee inquired Sri Lanka Cricket about funds spent on several projects, and instructed for investigations to be conducted with regard to the funding for these projects.
Additionally, COPE also instructed for Sri Lanka Cricket to streamline its procurement process and to develop a proper format for distributing funds to sports associations.
