Ready to do our duty for suffering public – Sajith

By Nabiya Vaffoor
During these critical times, we are ready and available to hear and try our best to find solutions to the woes of the public as a responsible Opposition, said Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa.
He expressed these views on 17 November at the SJB special hotline centre situated at the SJB headquarters.
“Instead of being an Opposition which merely criticises, we are trying our best to work as public representatives who listen and find solutions to the issues faced by the public according to the power we have. However, we should emphasise that since we are in the Opposition, we have limited power and authority to solve problems but we would take the responsibility to inform the relevant authorities in these regard,” he added.
Fielding a question raised by a journalist about his stance on the one-year anniversary of the current Government, Premadasa said that there is nothing but disappointment on the part of the public who have been deceived by a Government which has failed to listen to their woes and work on behalf of the public in these dire times.
He said that he was glad that the younger Members of the SJB were able to come up with such a mechanism to listen to the voices of the public and fulfil their responsibilities as public representatives.
Those joining Premadasa at the public discussion were SJB Parliamentarians Manusha Nanayakkara and Mujibur Rahman and others who took time to man the hotline and find solutions to issues faced by the public.
