Army Commander and the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant Commander Shavendra Silva stated that the Government would consider re-opening of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after taking into consideration the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He made this remark after arriving at the BIA premises yesterday (17) to wish the seventh Army Command team in the Army Medical Corps which was set to leave to South Sudan.

The Commander stated that the Government would consider taking a decision on the reopening of the BIA at the correct time and said it won’t be taken haphazardly.
