On the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the re-cultivation of fallow paddy lands owned by the Urban Development Authority (UDA)  commenced with a Vap Magul ceremony yesterday (20) with the aim of popularising local paddy and vegetables using organic fertiliser.

The UDA owns 460 acres of arable land around the Parliament complex and the first phase of urban agriculture was started in 2013 in the Kimbulawala area in Thalawathugoda on the instructions of the then Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
