President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given the Road Development Authority (RDA) nine months to build the Kurunjankeni Bridge in Kinniya.
Speaking to the media yesterday (25) at the Presidential Media Centre, Highways Ministry Secretary R. W. R. Premasiri expressed sorrow about the tragedy in which six people, including schoolchildren, were killed when a ferry capsized in the Kurunjankeni Lagoon in Kinniya, Trincomalee.
He said that though the RDA is not in charge of the road or the bridge, the President has ordered it to complete the Kurunjankeni Bridge in nine months.
RDA Director General Sardha Weerakoon in his speech said that work is underway to upgrade the Colombo-Puttalam main road to mitigate the impact of rain water on Chilaw town and on the road portion.
The press conference focused on Sri Lanka’s road network. President’s spokesman Kingsley Ratnayake chaired the discussion.
