Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has granted approval to the staff of former SJB MP Ranjan Ramanayake to use the Madiwela MPs Quarters for a period of six months, after the actorturned politician was convicted and imposed with a four-year term of RI on a charge of Contempt of Court by the Supreme Court last January.
Due to his conviction, the ex-MP had been told to leave the Madiwela MPs Quarters, but the Speaker had allowed Ramanayake’s staff to use the facility for a further six months till such time as the latter’s items are moved. The request made by Ramanayake’s Secretary had been conveyed to State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, who in turn had brought it to the attention of the Speaker.
