Prison Police seized a cell phone from former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who is currently being held at the Welikada Prison Hospital. Ramanayake, who is serving a sentence in the Angunakolapelessa Prison, was transferred to the Welikada Prison Hospital to be admitted to the Colombo National Hospital's Orthopaedic Clinic due to a knee injury.
During a surprise search on Sunday night, Prison Police recovered a mobile phone and a hands-free kit from the former MP's possession, according to Prison Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake. He will be charged under Section 78 of the Prisons Ordinance and will appear before a three-member prison panel. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Prisons Department into the incident.
