Raising Living Standards of Farmers – Gamlath
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s primary goal is to economically strengthen the farming community, and the promotion of organic fertiliser is one step toward that goal, said State Minister of Canals and Common Infrastructure Development in Settlements in Mahaweli Zones Siripala Gamlath.
He said the Government is taking steps to identify difficulties faced by farmers and find necessary solutions, as farmers contribute significantly to the national economy. “Even the powerful Nations around the world are facing issues as a result of the COVID19 outbreak.
But our country has been able to control the pandemic thanks to an effective programme implemented under the President’s instructions,” he said. According to the State Minister, the President decided to restrict the use of chemical fertiliser and replace it with organic fertiliser with the noble goal of building a healthy Nation.
He added that the President halted the import of 16 crops and limited the import of some other crops because they could be grown locally. Gamlath said so while taking part in an awareness programme organised to mark Mahaweli Organic Fertiliser Week to educate Mahaweli farmers in Meegalawa and Galnewa. (TR)
