Puttalam road running through Kochchikade to be widened –Lanza
As a solution to traffic congestion in the Kochchikade town on the Colombo highway, the State Ministry for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure has decided to widen the Puttalam road, which runs through the city limits of Kochchikade to four lanes. A discussion was held recently at the Ministry Auditorium under the patronage of State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure, Nimal Lanza, on the widening of the road. This is being carried out to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kochchikade town.
State Minister Lanza stated that a 5.6-kilometre stretch from Dalupotha Junction to Thoppuwa Bridge has been identified for four-lane development to alleviate traffic congestion within the Kochchikade city limits. The development of the 820 meter will be accelerated to four-lane in Kochchikade city limits as its first phase.
Its current status and issues were discussed. He emphasised the significance of implementing this project in order to save time, money, and reduce environmental pollution, as well as to increase business activity in Kochchikade, which has been reduced due to the use of alternative routes to bypass Kochchikade town when traveling on the Peliyagoda-Puttalam (A003) road to Anuradhapura, Puttalam, and Jaffna. State Minister Lanza also directed Road Development Authority officials to take steps to minimise the impact on the business community during the project’s implementation. The Kochchikade business association also stated that the road would be widened to four lanes to provide maximum support to the city’s development.
