Pushpika’s marital status - an obstacle in Mrs. World pageant?
A press conference was held this afternoon (06) in Colombo, during which concerns in relation to the chaos that unraveled on the stage of the Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World on Sunday (04) were discussed.
In response to a question as to whether Pushpika De Silva’s marital status posed as an obstacle to her participation in the upcoming Mrs. World pageant, National Director Chandima Jayasinghe had the following to say,
“If Pushpika holds the legal title of a divorcee by this time, she will not be allowed to participate in the competition, and the first-runner up will be taken into consideration. However, until such is proven, Pushpika is legible for the pageant.”
What if Pushpika’s divorce is finalized halfway through the Mrs. World competition? Will she still be able to move forward?
“No, if such an incident were to take place, she would be immediately disqualified and the first-runner up will take her place in the competition.”
Subsequently, Pushpika took it upon herself to clarify the fact that despite allegations of an ongoing divorce case, she will not let anything disrupt the progress she has made thus far.
“Just as these cases are filed, they can also be withdrawn. This is a personal matter and if the Mrs. World Organization does not have a problem with it, neither should anyone else. I will not let anything hinder the progress and sacrifices I have made to come this far in the competition.” , she said.
