Purchase gas with Treasury intervention – Committee
The Ministerial Committee, formed to revise the present gas price in the local market, has suggested that one of the reasons put forth for the hike in gas prices by firms is various irregularities that are taking place when purchasing gas cylinders. They had suggested that to prevent this henceforth gas should be purchased with the intervention of the Treasury.
The Committee headed by Minister Bandula Gunawardene and comprising Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella, Mahinda Amaraweera, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Lasantha Alagiyawanna had convened last Monday. Sources said that Laugf gas urged the Government to increase its gas cylinder price by Rs 700, while Litro has requested for a hike of its cylinders by Rs 600 to 640. The CAA has proposed that any price hike should be in the range of Rs 400.
