The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has formed a committee, chaired by PUCSL Deputy Chairman, Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, to investigate the islandwide power outage that occurred on 3 December.
PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said on Monday (6) that the committee will submit a report once the statements of individuals regarding the blackout have been recorded. He went on to say that as the power supply regulatory body in Sri Lanka, they are responsible for investigating what happened and whether the power outage was intentional. He said the commission has the authority to summon anyone to the appointed committee and then record statements to prepare the report. When asked what deadline they had given the commission to submit the report, he said they had not given any deadline, but they hoped the report would be submitted soon because its operation had already begun.
