PTA prisoners confirmed Ratwatte’s behaviour – Ganesan
BY SULOCHANA RAMIAH MOHAN
Leader of Tamil Progressive Alliance, MP Mano Ganesan, and Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP, Kavinda Jayawardena, who visited the Anuradhapura Prison on 18 September said, the inmates detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) had confided to them that former State Minister of Prison Management, Lohan Ratwatte, had entered the prison and threatened them at gunpoint and that he was under the influence of liquor. Ganesan said the inmates feared for their safety and said the prison officials were present to make sure that they were protected.
He further said the PTA inmates had told him that Ratwatte had loaded the gun with bullets and pointed the pistol at one inmate. “We went there to find the truth and this is what was revealed to us,” he told Ceylon Today. “They fear for their lives and pleaded to be transferred to prisons that are close to their birth places and that they cannot remain in Anuradhapura.
An unexpected accident could have happened during the visit by this State Minister that would have been pinned on the prisoners,” Ganesan alleged.
