Providing NICs for General Election: Submit applications before 17 July

The Department of Registration of Persons will accept applications which are sent before 17 July to provide National Identity Cards (NICs) for the General Election on 5 August, said the Commissioner General of the Department, P. Viyani Gunathilake.
When contacted, he stated that applicants who send applications before 29 July will only get a temporary identification letter with the details, photograph of the applicant and the signature of the Commissioner General, which would also be accepted by the Election Commission (EC) in connection with the General Election.
Gunathilake further stated that the EC has given instructions to stop issuing even temporary identification letters to applicants who submit their applications after 29 July and the District Secretariats will also follow .
