Those who were not in favour of the Samagi Jana Balawergaya pledge to provide free sanitary products to women and schoolgirls in the country, now acknowledge the need for it, claims Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

“They have now acknowledged its importance; however, they have not been able to get started with the initiative. Therefore, a national programme to provide sanitary products to women free of charge is expected to be launched through Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya,” he added. He was speaking at a Media briefing on 9 April following giving prizes to winners of an islandwide art competition organised by Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya on International Women’s Day. The first, second and third winners in three categories were awarded prizes in excess of Rs 500,000.
