Probing SLMC actions: GMOA shelves strike
By Dilanthi Jayamannne
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said it had shelved the idea of a strike during the week starting 21 September, following Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi’s move to set up a five-member committee to probe the actions of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and to submit a Cabinet paper to issue the Gazette on the Minimum Standards for Medical Education.
GMOA Secretary, Dr. Senal Fernando, said on 17 September that the GMOA General Committee would meet on 24 September to review the progress that had been made by this committee and the action of the Acting Assistant Registrar who had allegedly been appointed by the former Health Minister, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
He said the Union was satisfied with the setting up of the committee.
