All prisons in the country will remain closed to visitors until further notice, following the identification of a COVID-19 positive inmate at the Welikada Prison, said Prisons Commissioner (Administrative) Chandana Ekanayake.

He stated that visitors will not be allowed to visit the inmates, as a precaution taken after the COVID-19 patient was identified on 7 July.

Following the detection of a COVID-19 positive inmate at Welikada Prison, authorities quarantined those at the Polonnaruwa Prison and the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre, where the inmate was previously housed, as a precautionary measure.
