Local Army to handle driving licence printing and issuance by Jan 2021

The possibility of the Army taking over the printing and issuing process of the Driving License of the Department of Motor Traffic was discussed between Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva with the Chief Signal Officer, Director Information Technology and several other professional IT Officers yesterday (15).

On a recommendation made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Cabinet decided on 01 July to hand over the printing process of driving licenses, currently managed by a private company, to the Army.

The transfer process is expected to be completed by 01 January 2021.

The feasibility of the proposed action plan presented by the team was discussed, and the relevant officials were directed to proceed with the formalities of taking over the project with immediate effect.
