It is with great pleasure that I express my good wishes on the dawn of the Sinhala -Tamil New Year, where renewed hope and aspirations of all Sri Lankans will be fulfilled, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

He stated in a communiqué: “The people of our country join in this great cultural festival from ancient times, giving priority to Sinhala customs and traditions”. 

The social aspects of cultural value among farmers is recalled every New Year. 

Being able to celebrate the New Year this time around, is due to the commitment of a disciplined population while adhering to health guidelines issued by the Government. 

Therefore, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep in mind health guidelines while preserving cultural values. 

It is with you in mind the Government has taken on the pressure faced by the people in an attempt to make the future prosperous for everyone. 

The time has come to traverse a new path for the prosperity of the nation, while taking into consideration the challenges we face together with renewed hope and aspirations. 

Let us resolve, during the dawn of this New Year, to stand with renewed strength to face the world as a nation while strengthening our ties.
