Prices of four essential commodities will have to be increased : Alagiyawanna
In line with price increases in the world market, the prices of milk powder, flour, gas and cement will also be increased, State Minister of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.
He said it is inevitable for prices to increase owing to price increases in the world market and a decision in this regard will be reached within the week, especially for products such as rice, flour, milk powder, gas and cement.
Meanwhile, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Executive Director Thushan Gunawardena has decided to resign from his post claiming that he received death threats for carrying out his duties properly.
He alleged that a State Minister was planning to sign agreements with traders and companies that import wheat flour, sugar, and cement. The signing of these agreements would have been very disadvantageous to the CAA and therefore Gunawardena had not signed them.
