President warns Easter Sunday attacks ‘culprits’
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says the law can be enforced against the culprits revealed by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday attacks through an act of parliament.
He was speaking at the opening of Golden Gate Kalyani in Colombo yesterday (24).
The president noted the PCoI appointed by the former government has recommended the then administration, including the former president, prime minister and the cabinet of ministers should be held responsible over the attack.
That recommendation has been referred to Parliament, the attorney general and the Criminal Investigation Department to take further action, he said.
The present government holds the two-thirds majority required for enforcing the law in this regard, the president noted, urging the opposition to be mindful when making demands and not to deceive the people.
He went onto say that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of infrastructure development projects have been initiated.
All these activities will continue, said the president, adding that all the promised projects will be completed if there are no other lockdowns in the country in the future.
