President invites Kuwait PM to invest in Port City

A meeting between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah was held in Manhattan, New York on 19 September. The President requested Al-Sabah for more job opportunities for skilled Sri Lankan workers in Kuwait.
Following the pandemic many migrant workers from Sri Lanka have been unable to go back to the Middle Eastern region. President Rajapaksa also pointed out that a large number of Sri Lankans are employed in Kuwait and drew attention to the COVID19 pandemic control measures and vaccination programme being carried out in the country.
He also spoke of the possibility of strengthening bilateral relations with the end of the pandemic and the opening up of the world. Recalling the close and friendly diplomatic relations between the two countries spanning 50 years, the two Leaders noted that the ties should be further strengthened.
The President also drew the attention of the Kuwaiti PM to investment opportunities in Colombo Port City; mainly in solar and wind energy and oil refining sectors. The two Heads of State also discussed the areas of food security, education, information technology and cyber security
