World President expresses solidarity with Lebanon

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa wrote to Lebanon’s President, Michel Aoun, to express his condolences and solidarity with the Lebanese Government over the explosion in Beirut on 04 August.

“Sri Lanka stands together in grief with you, the families of the victims, the injured and the people, and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he wrote, in the message sent yesterday (05).

Meanwhile, as of noon today (06), the number of injured Sri Lankans in the explosions has increased to 10.

The total number injured has exceeded 5,000, while the death toll has increased to 137 and information on the number of missing persons is presently unavailable. A State of Emergency has been declared for a period of two weeks from 04 August.
