Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa urged ministers who express critical views of the Government’s present conduct to resign from their portfolios and start fighting against it. Premadasa claimed the Government is looking at the strike of teachers and principals with detestation and that the education of children is in jeopardy due to this attitude.

“The Government is now rejecting its own Subodhini Salaries Commission report and playing with the future and present of more than four million children in this country. It is not the fault of the teachers at all. The Government has no plan to rebuild the collapsed economy and it has turned the Central Bank into a money printing centre. The end result of all these things will be destruction of the country by high inflation. The Government is taking revenge on the Opposition and politically hunting down the leaders of the opposition,” added Premadasa.

He said that neither the SJB nor the Opposition will let repression take place. Meanwhile, Premadasa said that the people had made sacrifices since the appointment of this Government. “Instead of fulfilling the needs of the people, the Government has made them wait in long queues after forty years. The people gave this Government the power it sought.

The ruling party won the Presidential Election in 2019, General Election in 2020 with two-third majority and even passed the 20th Amendment to the Constitution to increase its power. The way the Government treats the people today has become a travesty of fate,” Premadasa added. Premadasa yesterday (18) inaugurated Hambantota Divisional SJB Office in the Tissamaharama electorate. SJB MP Dilip Wedaarachchi and former Provincial Councilor Tennakoon Nilame were also present at the occasion.
