Power cuts to continue today

Power outages are expected today (8) as well, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., according to Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Wasantha Perera.
She said the Norochcholai Power Station Unit 2 is currently operating at full capacity, while the other two units are undergoing maintenance.
“Thus, the public may experience one-hour nightly power outages in various areas.
It is difficult to restore the units because it requires more energy. It is difficult to restart the units after they have been shut down, and it will take time to use manpower in other areas of maintenance even after they have been restarted,” she added.
The maintenance process, however, is currently underway.
Meanwhile, Sulakshana Jayawardena, Spokesman for the Ministry of Power, said because the areas where power cuts will be imposed have yet to be determined, the electricity supply will be interrupted as needed.
The Power Ministry recently announced that sporadic power outages may occur in parts of the island for one hour until the Norochcholai Power Plant is fully operational following the recent major power outage on 3 December.
