The Government has declared the operation of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) as an Essential Service. Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundera published the Extraordinary Gazette Notification pertaining to this on 17 November.
The Order by the President was made in terms of Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979.
Thereby, all services, work or labour of any description necessary or required to be done by or in connection with the SLPA in Section 3 of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Act No. 51 of 1979, would have to be carried out.
