Political pressure impeding work of State officials – Handunnetti
By Anurada Herath
Ex-JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti says unwarranted political pressure on State officers, thereby preventing them from performing their duty independently, has been a serious impediment, to the day-to-day function of certain State institutions.
He said unwelcome political interference on the work done by some honest and hard-working State officials had prompted a slew of individuals to tender their resignations in the past few months.
Handunnetti pointed out that among the spate of State officers to have resigned on their own volition during the recent past had been Thushan Gunawardene, Susantha Ratnayake, Mahinda Vidanapathirana, Dr. Jatal Mannamperuma, Ishini Wickremasinghe, Nalaka Kaluweva, Dr. WD Lakshman, Renuka Perera and Dr. Ananda Wijewickrema, to name a few. He charged that each of these ex-State officers had resigned due to continuous political interference and being unable to perform their duties according to their conscience.
