News Political bigwig facilitates Ethanol Jayalath’s return?

The CID has launched an investigation into an incident where a leading ethanol dealer, who was the main suspect in a drug trafficking case and was later arrested by the security personnel at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayaka, had been released with the involvement of a State Minister representing the Puttalam District.

The suspect, Jayalath Krishan Peiris, against whom an open warrant had been issued, had returned from Dubai along with another politician on Monday, 10 January and was stopped by security personnel at the BIA on the basis that he had a travel ban imposed against him and the State Minister had allegedly arrived at the Airport to pick up Peiris.

According to CID sources, the arrest was carried out based on an open warrant that was issued on Peiris for the commission of an offence of mixing coloured water with whisky and he was produced in Court and subsequently released on bail.
