Police warns public of telephone scams
The public has been requested to be cautious of phone calls by individuals impersonating TID officers or CID officers.
The Police Headquarters said incidents where criminals impersonate the Police and call the public claiming they have obtained information linking to the Easter Sunday attacks, requesting individuals to deposit cash to a specific bank account to avoid recording statements have been reported.
Police have received around 50 such complaints thus far.
Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana requested the public to be cautious when answering such phone calls and providing information.
He further said several individuals have mistakenly deposited money to accounts, mentioning it is a group of criminals behind such phone calls.
