Police seize 1,610 kg heroin in 2020

A total of 1,610 kg of heroin was seized by the Police last year, and 33,125 suspects were arrested.
Police Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana, yesterday (25), said the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) seized 775 kg of heroin last year.
A total of 28,452 suspects were arrested for possession of cannabis and 1,400 suspects were rounded up for possessing synthetic drugs. Accordingly, 61,550 suspects were taken into custody. “The operation of rounding up suspects in connection with heroin, cannabis, and other illicit drugs will continue. It has been reported that there is a shortage of heroin in the market, due to raids. Also, there is a surge in synthetic drug users,” he said. Meanwhile, he said they have issued red notices for 24 suspects and one suspect is deceased.
The PNB seized the following quantities of heroin in 2020: 170 kg in January, 74 kg in February, 464 kg in March, 225 kg in May, and 15 kg in October.
