Kinniya Police, yesterday (20), said they have commenced investigations to track down the parents of a nearly one-month old baby boy who was found near a mosque in Samavachchativu.
Following a tip-off provided by Army Intelligence Division officials, the Kinniya Police found the baby on 19 September morning. Kinniya Police have handed over the baby to the Base Hospital, Kinniya.
The Kinniya Police went on to say that when they contacted the Family Welfare Officer in charge of Samavachchativu, she had told the Police every pregnant mother in the area attended her clinic and she is not aware of a woman who could possibly be the mother of the baby.
Police suspect the baby was brought from elsewhere and abandoned at this location. However, surveillance cameras in the location are being checked to find the person who abandoned the baby there, the Kinniya Police added.
