Police get tough on public events

Permission from health authorities to conduct any event during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year has been made mandatory by the Police to minimise the spread of COVID-19.
While the Police have implemented plans to monitor the spread of COVID-19, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the public must strictly follow social distancing rules while being in public places or celebrating the New Year at a public event.
He added that if permission for events is not obtained, the Police will treat it as an illegal event and necessary action will be taken. Police urge the public to follow health guidelines while celebrating the New Year.
