PM visits Amarapura Maha Nikaya’s new Prelate
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa paid a visit to the Kalapaluwawa Thapowana Meditation Centre in Rajagiriya where he met Ven. Aggamaha Panditha Dodampahala Chandra Siri Nayaka Thera - the recently appointed Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya. The Premier initially came to see Aggamaha Panditha Dodampahala Chandrasiri Nayaka Thera and inquired about his health.
The Thera gave a short speech in which he expressed gratitude for the PM’s visit and called his leadership as one that has done a great deal to country; describing him as a Head of State. “As the Maha Sangha, we are acutely conscious of the country’s pandemic situation.
In light of this, the Government’s stance is admirable. We hope that the Prime Minister, as Cabinet Minister for Buddhist Affairs, would continue to focus on increasing the housing programme for novice monks’ homeless and destitute families,” he said.
