PM urges all to support Govt

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said he would urge all Sri Lankans to support the Government by putting aside their differences, be it political or otherwise, to conclusively and effectively tackle the spread of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, akin to the support they had extended to the then regime to wipe out LTTE terrorism.
He stated that striving to defeat an invisible enemy is a much bigger and greater challenge to the Government than attempting to overcome a visible foe like the LTTE. But, he emphasised that if the public are willing to adhere to the health guidelines 24/7 and restrict their unwanted travels, it would not be impossible to successfully curb the spread of COVID-19. The PM noted the Government had been able to curtail the spread of the two previous waves of the pandemic effectively due largely to the support they had received from the public.
PM Rajapaksa also commended the untiring services rendered by those in the heath and security spheres to control the spread of the virus as well as treat hundreds and thousands who had infected with the virus since Sri Lanka reported its first case of a COVID-19 last year.
He added the vaccination process was also taking place successfully to prevent the spread of the third wave of the pandemic and noted that jabs of the WHO recommended vaccines would be provided to 13.5 million of the population in the country.
