Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (18), phoned former Afghanistan President Karzai Hamid to inquire about the developments in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country after 20 years.
In a Tweet, the Prime Minister said he called him to inquire about the ongoing developments unfolding in his country and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s continued support to the People of Afghanistan. Karzai visited Sri Lanka in March 2014 and spoke of the security situation in Afghanistan at that time.
A Sri Lanka-Afghanistan Joint Commission was established under the 2012 Agreement on Economic, Educational, Scientific and Technological Cooperation and there were plans to have sound bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
