PHI remanded for bribery

Colombo Chief Magistrate Mohammad Mihal yesterday (25) ordered the Udubedda PHI officer who was charged with soliciting a bribe of Rs 20,000 to supply documents to enable the transport and sale of beef, to be remanded till 12 February.
The suspect was identified as Udubedda PHI officer R.M.K. Kosala Herath. The Bribery Commission told Court that the suspect had been nabbed on 12 January at Ethungahakotuwa Junction on a complaint lodged with it by the owner of the beef stall A.H.M. Riyaz, a resident of Dummalasuriya.
The prosecution was represented by officers from the Bribery Commission.
