PCR tests increased to 20,000 per day – State Minister

State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and Covid Disease Control, Consultant Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle told ‘Ceylon Today’ that the number of PCR tests being carried out daily has been increased and as of now more than 20,000 PCR tests are being done and that steps are being taken to ensure that issuing of reports from these tests are expedited.
The State Minister pointed out that persons who are subject to PCR testing should remain in their homes and be isolated from other members of the family, while following strict health protective measures until results of the tests are obtained. She also said that 15,000 PCR tests are being carried out daily at Government hospitals currently and about 5,000 PCR tests are being done at private hospitals too and the daily number of tests being done both by the government and the private hospitals exceeds 20,000 at present.
Dr. Fernandopulle added that unlike the previous variant of the Covid-19 virus, the B117 strain is far more powerful but if the people of this country cooperate it will be possible to easily prevent the spread of this new Coronavirus and that she requests the public to provide maximum assistance for this purpose.
