Pamok Samaranayake wins Championship

Pamok Samaranayake of Rahula College, Matara emerged champion of the Sri Lanka Online Rapid National (Novices Division) Chess Championship 2021 (Southern Open event) with a score of 6.5 points out of 7 games to win the Gold Medal. He won all his matches except against Menula Weheragoda, who held him to a draw. 

Emal I. S. Dissanayake (Rahula College Matara) placed 2nd with a score of 6 points out of 7 games and walked away with the Silver Medal, while K.H. Savitha Nimsanda (Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda) finished 3rd with a better tie breaker to take the Bronze Medal, after tying with three other players with 5.5 points out of 7 games. The other three players - M.M. Nanayakkara, H. A. Menula Weharagoda and Geenuka Kavinu Gunaweera - had to be satisfied with 4th, 5th & 6th place respectively.
