Diyawadana murder: brother reveals inside story
As both Sri Lanka and Pakistan mourn the death of Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana, his brother, Kamal Diyawadana, has revealed the true details of his brutal murder.
The murder took place on Friday (03), when a mob tortured and burnt the general manager of a garments factory in Sialkot, Pakistan.
Following is an account of what had transpired, according to what Kamal Diyawadana had reliably come to know.
"The murder took place on a Friday. It was their Jummah day. There was a strike at the factory at the time, over wage anomalies. As the owner of the company is based in Germany, my younger brother was told to take over. A factory employee came to tell him about the protest, to which he had replied with a request that they return to work, and that their salary issues would be discussed later", Kamal said .
It was after this, however, that the mob of protestors stormed Priyantha's office, dragged him away and tortured him.
While several media have reported that Priyantha allegedly tore down a religious poster, Kamal asserted that this, in fact, was not the truth.
Instead, he accused the mob of using the existing laws in Pakistan that deem blasphemy as an offence punishable by death, as a mere excuse used to evade conviction.
Kamal further suspected the initial messenger had riled the mob with false information about Priyantha's response.
