Paddy mill owners agree to certified price
Paddy mill owners have agreed to provide paddy at government-certified prices, Minister of Trade, Bandula Gunawardana said.
The agreement was reached after a lengthy discussion with the Trade Minister, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage and paddy mill owners today (21).
Accordingly, nadu paddy will be sold at Rs. 50 per kilo, samba at Rs. 52, Kiri Samba at Rs. 55 and wet paddy at Rs. 42 per kilo.
In addition, the fine imposed on shop owners who sell rice at higher prices will increase from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 100,000.
Cabinet approval has already been obtained for the said decision and it will be presented to Parliament within the next two weeks for approval, the Ministers said.
