The Ministry of Environment has identified 10,377 sources that pollute the banks and water of the Menik Ganga.
Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, said it has been found that 60 erosion sites along the Menik Ganga, 55 sites for illegal sand and gem mining, and 31 landfills for urban waste disposal are impeding the flow of the Menik Ganga, adding that there are a number of sources polluting its banks and water.
Dr. Jasinghe said these issues were identified through a study conducted by a panel of experts. He said action will be taken against those who dump waste into the river and illegal sand miners.
