Only those willing to return to be repatriated - Jayaratne

A group of Sri Lankans working in the Middle East had requested to return to Sri Lanka because of the COVID-19 situation but have now decided to stay back and be employed,State Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion, Piyankara Jayaratne told ‘Ceylon Today.’
He pointed out that some Sri Lankans employed in the Middle East had returned to the country in batches and part of the group which was preparing to return had decided to remain and engage in jobs. He also said that as a result, requests to return will be reviewed and only those in favour of returning will be brought back.
Jayaratne further said coordination is being carried out with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant Embassies. Once the Airport is opened on 21 January, it is hoped to repatriate Sri Lankans in the Middle East within two weeks.
