Online sale of liquor only after Finance Ministry approval
A proposal for online sale of liquor has been sent to the Ministry of Finance by the Excise Department together with relevant recommendations , Deputy Commissioner of Excise , Kapila Kumarasinghe said.
He added that until the consent of the Finance Ministry is received, no online sale of liquor will be permitted.
Kumarasinghe added that the Excise Department has already made a loss of approximately over 7.5 Billion during the period in which liquor stores have been sealed and that several requests have been made for the online sale of liquor.
Liquor outlets island wide were sealed from 1 June with the imposition of travel restrictions as a precautionary measure.
