The COVID-19 infected prison inmate, who escaped from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) on 19 November night, was found in Hidurangala, Eheliyagoda and arrested on 21 November.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana yesterday (23) said the 25-year-old was found hiding in a shrubbery area. He said steps were taken to hospitalise the individual.
He said that the villagers of the area had supported the Police to apprehend her, thereafter the Police informed health authorities and they had taken action to direct her to a treatment centre. The inmates two-year-old son has also sent to a treatment centre along with his father.
However, the woman has made a statement to the Police about her escape and how she arrived at her residence from the hospital. The statements are being verified. DIG Rohana said, further investigations were being conducted to track down the closest associates of the escapee.
“If the investigations revealed that some has helped the escapee to abscond the Police, action will be taken against them under the quarantine regulations,” he added.
